Well, I'm never going hunting

I realized after our weekend in Harper that I really will never be able to hunt. I love animals too much to hurt them. Case in point: Saturday, Landon and I were driving around the back property in the Polaris and changing out all the SD cards from the game cameras (we think someone might be hunting on our land, so we put up game cameras to try and catch them). We were driving along the back fence and saw something moving under the fence. We stopped a ways away, thinking it was a pig (we were also trying to hunt them because they are ruining the property). Nope, not a pig...a porcupine. A huge porcupine. Actually, this was the first porcupine I've seen in real life so I have nothing to compare it to, but Landon said it was big.

This poor guy was caught in a snare trap. I don't really know about them, but I know that he had a wire wrapped around his waist and it was attached to the fence. He had scraped his back needles off while trying to get out of the trap. This, of course, made me really sad and I wanted to help it. I convinced Landon to go back and we would try to find wire cutters (long enough so we didn't get poked!) to cut the wire to get him out. My dad did not agree with this at all because he believes they are eating the bark off our young trees, which eventually will kill them. In the end, Landon went (by himself) back to the porcupine to end its life. Poor guy. Which is when I realized I will never be able to hunt because I love animals too much to kill them.

This is also a catch-up post. I'm awful about blogging...I can never think of anything to blog about. So I will add some fun pictures that I've taken over the past few months!

Ellie from this weekend in Harper. On Thursday she had her teeth cleaned (thank goodness, her breath smells like death) and they have to knock them out to do it. So she has two awesome stripes on her front legs where the IVs were. She looks pretty ridiculous. We had gone for a walk around the property Saturday night and threw the ball for her a bunch. She had been inside most of the day and needed this crazy time. She ended up opening the cuts (pokes? spots?) where the IVs had been and was bleeding. We had to tape some gauze around both her legs. She just looked so pathetic and Landon started singing "in the arms of the angels..."

New Year's Eve in New Orleans at my grandma's house. She started outside in the backyard with the other dogs, but was freaking out when the fireworks started. We brought her inside to hang out in a bedroom with my aunt's two Cairn Terriers. Ellie decided she really liked their bed.

Instead of a gift exchange with the cousins this year, we all decided we would rather just have a night to go and hang out and enjoy each other's company. Our favorite hang out spot in Metairie is Rock n Bowl. It's a bowling alley with a bar and live music on weekends. The band was great, the place was packed, and we had a blast hanging out, hoola hooping (yes, you read right), and bowling! I actually made a spare and a strike! We will definitely be making this a tradition.

Since we don't have any kids yet (don't get too excited, it will be a long time), 90% of the pictures on my phone are of my "kid": Ellie. We spent the 4 days before Christmas at Landon's parent's house in Marble Falls before heading out to Harper on Christmas Day to hang out with my family. Ellie decided to take a nap on Landon's bed and use his rolled-up blanket as a pillow. She's too damn cute.
